This Sallmann branch is living in Switzerland today. Robert, who sent me the information is living in Amriswil (county Thurgau) next to the lake Bodensee.

Robert's father Oskar and his uncle Richard went abroad to study in America for a short time. They appear in the emigrant list. (see Amriswil)

Robert S. published a book concerning his ancestors with the  title  "Joseph Sallmann (1823-1871) - founder of the Swiss leotard industry". The book appeared to the company on the occasion of the 150 anniversary of the existence ISA Sallmann Ltd in the year 1999. If you are interested in  the book just sent a note to Robert. But it is only available in German language.

Johann Joseph Sallmann founded the company, born in Saxony. He fled in the course of the 49er revolution as a young man to Switzerland. In Amriswil he set up his own company and became the founder of the Swiss leotard industry. Joseph Sallmanns successor continued the work begun, so that the ISA Sallmann Ltd. still exists today on the market. Robert Sallmann, great-grandchild of the founder and former manager of the ISA Sallmann Ltd., gathered different historical documents and wrote this descriptive book, which gives an insight into the family and firm history of the local industry."
